Objective 3: To inform hemispheric policy-making

Research findings on national and sub-regional health and environmental impact assessment laws and policies, and results of the case studies, will be compared and analysed by the research partners, with the guidance of a multi-disciplinary advisory council, to generate policy recommendations. Partners will:

Host a series of hemispheric side-events parallel to upcoming international health, environment and economic events, to inform decision-makers of each discovery in their research.

Generate a series of recommendations that can inform the work of the sub-regional environment and health cooperation authorities, and the Health and Environment Ministers of the Americas (HEMA) process, and also the sub-regional and hemispheric trade liberalization negotiations, in the context of the Summit of the Americas process. These recommendations will include strategies for building up "receptor capacity" to the results of IA studies in relevant economic ministries/agencies, investigating what kinds of approaches work, and how this is affected by institutional structures in different countries and sectors.

Seek to have these recommendations taken into account in new Americas treaties and environmental cooperation arrangements.
