Ms. Deborah Elizabeth Gourgy
McGill University, Faculty of Law

Ms. Deborah Elizabeth Gourgy, B.A. (McGill), is a member of the legal research group for the CISDL, and is currently pursuing a B.C.L./LL.B. at McGill University. In 2003, Ms. Gourgy completed a joint-honour’s degree in international development studies and anthropology from McGill University, one third of which was completed at the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris, France. At that time she wrote an undergraduate honour’s thesis on the past socio-economic development of Mauritius in relation to current theories on sustainable livelihoods. Ms. Gourgy has participated in several field-development initiatives in Southern Africa. Her continuing academic interest is in the role of developed countries in promoting sustainable livelihoods. Ms. Gourgy has a particular interest in sustainable business practices and is currently a part-time property manager for a real-estate development corporation based in Montreal. She is also interested in wider economic development, international business and international trade law. Ms. Gourgy is fluent in English and French, proficient in Spanish and Hebrew and has some understanding of Arabic.
