Mr. Mark Searl, BA (Steubenville), BCL, LL.B (McGill), is a Legal Research Fellow with the CISDL, where he cooperates with the Human Rights and Poverty Alleviation Programme, focusing on social security law, and development financing, in developing countries.  He holds a B.A. in Philosphy from Franciscan University of Steubenville (U.S.A.), and LL.B. and B.C.L. degrees from McGill University’s Faculty of Law. Mark served as a law clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, then under the auspices of the Canadian Bar Association, he spent a year in South Africa working with two human rights organizations, the Legal Resources Centre and the Centre for Applied Studies (University of the Witwatersrand). He also worked in Toronto as a consultant for the International Cooperation arm of the Canadian Bar Association. He has also worked with Human Rights Watch. He is a member of the Ontario Bar, and a candidate for an LL.M. at the University of Cambridge Law Faculty, where he holds a valuable scholarship. Mark is a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, and speaks English, French and Spanish.
