As Canada considers the ratification and implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, the CISDL presents a legal brief addressing the role of international legal obligations and their contribution to sustainable climate change law in Canada. The CISDL?fs book, Weaving the Rules for Our Common Future: Principles, Practice and Prospects of International Sustainable Development Law by Ashfaq Khalfan, Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger, and Salim Nakhjavani is now available on-line. Launched last August at Envirolaw 2002 and the World Summit for Sustainable Development, Weaving the Rules assesses the future of International Sustainable Development Law and points the way toward implementation.

The CISDL, in combination with partners, hosts a Sustainable Development Legal Experts Panel and a High Level Partnership Launch at the World Summit for Sustainable Development. An expert panel delivers the results of three major 2002 international law conferences in New Delhi, India; Montreal, Canada; and Durban, South Africa, and profiles other high level legal events. The event launches a new legal experts partnership to strengthen and support international law for sustainable development.Event Description

Discussions on the draft Johannesburg Programme of Action have focused in particular on the applications of the principles of precaution, of common but differentiated responsibilities and on the role of human rights in sustainable development. Sustainable Justice 2002 :: Conference Report

The dates for Sustainable Justice 2002 have been changed to June 13-16 2002. This is to accommodate the new dates of the pre-sessional meetings at the Fourth Preparatory Committee of the WSSD in Bali, Indonesia.
