Mr. Carlos Iván Fuentes

Carlos Iván Fuentes, Licentiate in Law and Political Sciences summa cum laude (USMA-Panama), LL.M. (McGill). Mr. Fuentes is currently an doctoral candidate and O´Brien Fellow at the McGill Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism. Before joining the CISDL, Carlos Iván briefly worked for the US-based management consulting firm Casals & Associates, Inc. as a legal advisor and grant manager in USAID’s Central America Transparency and Accountability Program. He participated in the events surrounding the 2007 General Assembly of the Organization of American States as a member of CIDEM, a Panamanian NGO working for the promotion of human rights and democracy. Under the leadership of Dr. Alfredo Castillero Hoyos, former member of the UN Human Rights Committee, he advocated for the inclusion of human rights and poverty issues in the “Declaration of Panama: Energy for Sustainable development”. Carlos Iván is fluent in Spanish and English, has an advanced level of French, and passive knowledge of Italian.
