Professor Andrew Newcombe, B.A. (Honours) (University of King’s College, Nova Scotia) 1992, LL.B. (University of Victoria) 1995, LL.M. (University of Toronto) 1999. Member of the Law Society of British Columbia since 1997. Professor Newcombe is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Victoria, where he teaches and researches in the area of international economic law and commercial law. Prior to joining the Faculty of Law in 2002, Professor Newcombe practiced as an associate with Miller Thomson (Vancouver) and the International Arbitration and Public International Law groups at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Paris). Professor Newcombe is currently writing a treatise entitled Investment Treaty Law and Arbitration to be published by Kluwer Law International in 2007. In 2004, he established ita, the leading international investment treaty arbitration research and resource website (http://ita.law.uvic.ca). Professor Newcombe was a Fellow of The Hague Academy of International Law, Centre for Studies on International Law and International Relations in 2004 and is a Legal Research Fellow with the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law.
