If so, please register now for Biodiversity Law & Governance Day 2022! This global workshop will be held on December 10th, 2022, 8:30am to 2pm at McGill Law (NCDH: Moot Court & seminar rooms) in Montreal and online, with an in-person node at the BSIA in Waterloo, during the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15.

Between 8:30 – 14:00 EST on Saturday December 10, 2022 at the McGill University Faculty of Law in Montreal, with a parallel online ‘node’ at the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) in Waterloo, key events include a high-level plenary with leading negotiators on the Legal & Governance Framework for the Post-2020 Biodiversity Strategy, as well as concurrent experts panels and workshops on: 

  • Sustainable Natural Resources Stewardshipin International Law, co-hosted with ILA, Swiss-Italian Univ, Univ Cambridge and partners; 
  • Genetic Sequencing and Access and Benefit Sharing in theNagoya Protocol, co-hosted with Univ Costa Rica, Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental (SPDA) and partners; 
  • Nature-Based Legal Solutions for theClimate & Biodiversity Emergencies, co-hosted with WCEL, Univ Victoria and partners; and
  • Indigenous Treaties, Trade & Biodiversity, co-hosted with IITIO, Univ Waterloo, Univ McGill and partners.

There will also be opening and closing plenaries with world-leading lawyers in this space, and Global Biodiversity Law Awards. Finally, don’t miss out on refreshments and networking breaks.

 

The 2022 Biodiversity Law & Governance Day will be held during the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity COP15 in Montreal this year, hosted by the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature World Commission for Environmental Law (IUCN-WCEL), McGill University, the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the University of Montreal, in collaboration with the International Law Association (ILA), International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the International Inter-tribal Trade and Investment Organisation (IITIO) and other partners. Engaging specialists from the Convention on Biological Diversity Secretariat (SCBD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UN-Environment), as well as government officials, negotiators and practitioners from leading countries, renowned universities and legal institutes, law associations and business from around the world, the Day provides a space to share legal solutions to the biodiversity emergency, exchanging new ideas and building capacity to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework through law.
