The COVID-19 pandemic had far-reaching consequences well beyond healthcare, touching crucial sectors such as food security. Therein the focus of this chapter. Section II sheds light on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on food security. Section III then explains how and to what extent such an impact may be amplified by the use of export restrictions on food commodities. Section IV examines how such measures are treated under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and highlights the main limitations of existing disciplines. Section V critically discusses the latest reform initiatives which seek to address such limits in light of food security implications and the more general crisis of the WTO.
