Adv. Clara McGaughey

Adv. Clara McGaughey is a recent graduate of McGill’s BCL/JD program. She completed her M.A. in Comparative Literature in 2017 and B.A. in English and Early Modern Studies in 2016. She has held internships with the International Labour Organization, Campaign for Female Education, the Elimu Impact Evaluation Unit, and Scholars at Risk. As a senior advocate with the Legal Information Clinic at McGill, she represented students in disciplinary hearings and other dispute resolution procedures at McGill. Prior to pursuing law, Clara worked as an English teacher in Buenos Aires, Tokyo, and Montreal. She is passionate about education and the importance of human, environmental, and economic rights in improving education access. During law school, she wrote term papers on girls’ education and climate resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa, human trafficking in the sport of gymnastics, and the prospects of trauma-informed legal education. As a lawyer, she plans to specialize in workplace investigations, while remaining open to writing, research, and teaching opportunities related to international law.
