Dr. Lodewijk van Dycke

Dr Lodewijk Van Dycke is an academic researcher, specialised in international and European agricultural law and policy. At CISDL, Lodewijk mainly contributes towards the Trade, Investment and Finance programme.Currently, Lodewijk is a Senior Research Fellow at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research, where he is a member of the Research Group Sociology of Law. Lodewijk is furthermore an affiliated researcher at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), where he participates in the Global Orders and Foreign Policies research programme and in the Institute for African Affairs. He is also affiliated with the Law and Development Research Group at the University of Antwerp. Lodewijk actively participates in the emerging Law and Political Economy (LPE) academic movement. Lodewijk held a PhD scholarship from the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich and was a visiting researcher at Yale Law School.

In addition to his academic work, Lodewijk has also worked as a policy advisor on agriculture and trade. He interned at the Belgian embassy in Kampala, was part of the cell European Affairs within the personal advisory team of Belgium’s Minister of Finance and consulted with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Nairobi. In these roles, Lodewijk has given legal-political advice on the nexus between agriculture, trade, intellectual property and the environment.
