Mr. Timothy Arvan

B.A. Hons. (U-Mich), M.Phil. (Cantab), Ph.D. Cand. (U-Mich)

Mr. Arvan is an Associate Fellow and CISDL’s Research Officer. He holds an M.Phil. (with Distinction) in Environmental Policy from the University of Cambridge, and received his B.A. (with Honors) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and Environmental Studies, with minors in Energy Science and Policy and Urban Studies, from the University of Michigan. In Cambridge, Mr. Arvan served as Secretariat Coordinator of the Climate Law and Governance Initiative and as a publications editor of the Cambridge Journal of Science and Policy. He previously led the University of Michigan’s delegation to UNFCCC COP24 in Katowice, Poland, and completed internships in climate policy with the Ecology Center and Resources for the Future. He has also advised institutional emissions reduction strategy as a research fellow with the University of Michigan Energy Institute and School for Environment and Sustainability.

Mr. Arvan’s research interests span questions of global environmental governance, with a particular focus on the politics of climate change. In fall 2021, Mr. Arvan will return to the University of Michigan to pursue his Ph.D. jointly between the Department of Political Science and Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
